I have received this illustrious award...
Thank you, Kevin, for seeing how awesome I am and letting everyone else know.
Okay, I am supposed to tell you seven interesting things about myself. Hmmmm, well, here we go...
#1: I grew up in the park service. Yep, I'm a Parkie...this is the deurogertory term some BLM and Forest Service people, my husband included, call my kind. *sniff* No, really...*sniff*... I'm okay.
#2: I was born in Chillicothe, Ohio where my dad worked at Mound City. I spent most of my childhood in southern Florida where he was the superintendent of Big Cypress National Preserve which is right next to the Everglades. We had gators, manatee and loads of snakes in our backyard. It's odd now to think how normal that was. And then when I was 12 we moved to Bryce Canyon National Park. How cool it was to finally see snow, mountains and trees drop their leaves. It was all as foreign to me as gators sunning themselves out your back window would be to most of you.
#3: My husband had an extremely different upbringing than me. He grew up on cattle ranch and is most comfortable in his wranglers and boots. Our kids now have the opportunity to chase cows, ride horses, cruise around on four-wheelers when we go home to see the grandparents. He grew up in the small town near Bryce Canyon National Park
#4: In high school, I was completely boy-crazy. Oh. My. Hopefully I can help my girls to pursue a different hobbie. Like, say... basket weaving? Paper mache? Collecting rubber bands to make the biggest rubber band ball? Yep, any of those would be much better.
#5: Remember Maria from Sesame Street? Is she still on the show? When we were in Florida, I babysat her cute little daughter. Her and her husband were making a donation to Big Cypress National Preserve...mmmmm....I think it was for the bobcats? Or something like that. And...well, I don't know what they were busy doing, but my dad asked me to watch their daughter. I think there was some kind of banquet or reception in their honor.
And, that my friends, is my brush with fame.
#6: In high school, thre were 19 in my class. Yep. Small town.
#7: I'm a wannabe hippie. Well....without the weed, unwashed body, free livin' lifestyle, or living in a van.
But I am a fan of bohemian clothing and sometimes have strange tastes in apparel. I once had a friend describe my outfit as....eclectic. I'm not sure it was a compliment. At a conference, I was told by a random cute girl that she couldn't wait to see what I wore everyday.
I guess, when I have a chance, I like to wear unique clothes. Now, just because I said that, you'll probably run into me at Wal-mart and I'll be wearing pajamas.
Okay, now to award award 7 other blogs for this highly prestigious award. And so, here are a few of my favorites...
Ok. I was also tagged a while ago by Lisa Josephson.
The Tag rules:
1. You must post the rules!
2. Answer the questions and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
3. Tag seven people and link to them.
4. Let them know you’ve tagged them.
1. If the planet was being evacuated and you could only bring three things with you, what would you bring?
#1: A box full of our family photo albums, journals and books (I know. I totally cheated with that one.)
#2: Some snacks (are we going to live on a planet full of apes or mole people? If so, I don't imagine they have good food.)
#3: My own spaceship (there was nothing in the question that indicated I don't have a spaceship.)
2. What's your favorite kind of cheese?
Fresh squeaky cheese curds from the Beaver Dairy.
3. Do you fold or crumple your toilet paper?
Um...I think I'm a crumpler. Can't say I've ever put much thought into that one...
4. In what position do you sleep?
On my side with a body pillow. I got into the habit when pregnant and never got out of it.
5. How many times a week on average do you stub your toe?
Er...I would say none. I don't seem to stub my toes that much. Or (more likely) I do and I don't notice because I'm too busy running around like a nutter.
6. Fire or ice and why did you choose that one?
Fire. I'd rather sit by a fire than a chunk of ice.
7. Have you ever milked a cow?
Nope.
8. Are you a cat or dog or monkey person?
More like an imaginary pet person. Ok...not totally true. I'd love to have a dog if they didn't smell, shed or stink. So, I guess I'm a Robot dog person. (I have enough animals to clean up after in this house, people.)
9. What would you do if you were on a planet made entirely of water?
Well, I think I'd do a lot of swimming. So, I'd have massive arms. (get ready for the gun show) And then...well...I don't know. I think that pretty much sums it up.
10. If you were an animal what would you want to be and why?
A bird. It would be pretty awesome to fly. And poop on people's heads.
11. What's one thing you do when no one's looking?
Eat too much ice cream.
Alright, did anyone actually read all of that?
Now I have to tag seven people. But I'm not going to, because I've been on this computer long enough.
Look at me, I'm such a rebel.

Enjoyed reading about your life. I can't imagine gators in the backyard. wow.
ReplyDeleteBest. Ever. "I'd rather sit by a fire than a chunk of ice." You kill me. Thank for the award! :)
ReplyDeleteOh! I meant to add that I get enigmatic half-compliments on my clothes, too. You're probably more stylish than me, but I tend to go *unique,* as well. Sometimes without meaning to, haha. [And by "thank," above, I obviously mean "thanks." Pfft. English.]
DeleteThanks Erin!! What a crazy life you've had. I'm on my way out of town for the weekend--writer's retreat!!--but I'll post this for my Monday post. Thanks again for the award.
ReplyDeleteI loved your poop on people comment! Totally made my day!
ReplyDelete... and THAT is exactly why I saw how awesome you are. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the title you gave my blog so much that I'm thinking of changing my own title to match it. :) No, seriously, I laughed out loud. It's hilarious. And it's way funnier than the one that I have.
ReplyDeleteAck! I can't believe how wrong I got that!! Oh my, that is so funny.
DeleteI've been smiling about it all day. :)
DeleteAnd... I am totally honored that you would name my blog for the award. Thanks, Erin.
DeleteYes, Maria is still on Sesame Street. My daughter watches the show and we see her from time to time... I think it's cool that you wear whatever you like. Let the universe be your runway.
ReplyDeleteI read it all! I think it is fasinating :)
ReplyDeleteFun answers! A manatee in the backyard as a kid would have made me sooo happy. I've seen your name on some of the write campaign stuff and wondered why it looked so familiar, so I clicked over to here to see your picture and realized that we were at Chautauqua together a few years ago. Hope you're doing well!
ReplyDeleteErin--thanks for the shout-out! You are, as usual, awesome. :)
ReplyDeletethanks erin! i love reading your blog and hearing your thoughts. you are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the award! I'll post again on Sunday and come back with a link! Thank you so much (and YOU are awesome because of this: 9. What would you do if you were on a planet made entirely of water? "Well, I think I'd do a lot of swimming.").
