And I hadn't planned on joining this year, but then I thought, why not? (hmmmmmm....this is how a lot of my crazy plans start out...)
The idea of the Picture Book Marathon is to write 26 picture books in a month. Now....I'm supposed to be revising my novel. Just a minute (Erin! Remember? You're supposed to be focusing on your novel!)
Alright, yes, I'm focusing on my novel. But the thing is....I really like picture books. They're so fun. And I'm always reading them to my kids. And buying them. I love to buy picture books. And I love checking them out of the library. And then I keep checking out the same ones until I decide to go ahead and see if I can find a good used copy for cheap on Amazon and finally buy it. And I have files and files of picture books I've written which need to be revised or are just sad or I think are good, but editors think are sad or....yes, I dare say, there are some with quite a bit of potential.
But let me clarify about my participation this year....I am not going to write a book everyday. I know! I'm already breaking the rules. But I'm like that. Total Rebel. Yep, that's me.
This year I'm going to let myself just kind of join in. I'm going to come up with (what I think is) a good solid idea for a picture book everyday. And if I have a chance to write a cruddy draft, then great. But if not, no biggie.
I'm not banking on selling any picture books any time soon. It's not the best market. But I don't care. This is just for me. It's something I want to do. I like to be creative. And maybe this will help keep me from making a bigger mess in my sewing room...
I think it's a great idea plus it might help you with ideas for the book you actually DO want to write and finish it might get you thinking outside the box ;) ready, set, go! GO Erin! Woohoo! You can do it!!! Keep running!! (oops maybe not the same kind of marathon)
